Seaweed tastes delicious, promotes good health and is a sustainable food source

Here at Mara we believe that eating seaweed is integral to nourishing body and soul. We’re passionate about sharing our love of seaweed, so here are 8 reasons why you should be eating seaweed as part of a healthy balanced diet.

1. Seaweed is a pure, natural, concentrated nutrient source for essential everyday nutrition.

Seaweed is the most highly mineralised vegetable on Earth. It's packed with many of the minerals your body needs, such as iodine, potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium.

2. Seaweed is a delicious, versatile flavour enhancer

As a natural source of umami with low sodium content compared to salt, seaweed adds depth to dishes in a healthy way. Add Dulse to red meat, stir Kombu into stews and shake Shony onto your eggs.

3. Seaweed provides a natural energy boost

The presence of iron, magnesium, vitamin B12 and folic acid means eating seaweed is a great way to fight tiredness and fatigue in a healthy, natural way.

    4. Eating seaweed is good for the environment

Seaweed is a highly sustainable source of food, which grows abundantly around the world and quickly regenerates when harvested correctly. Commercial seaweed harvesting and seaweed farming also support small coastal communities.

        5. Eating seaweed keeps you fuller for longer

Seaweed has a high fibre content, which helps your body digest food effectively. Alginates also increase satiety.

        6. Seaweed is vegan, vegetarian and gluten free

...but it's also a great source for minrals typically found in meat and milk, such as protein, iron and calcium, so you don't need to worry about getting enough nutrients.

        7. Seaweed is high in iodine

Iodine is vital for normal functioning of your thyroid gland, which controls your body's metabolism, and 66% of women are deficient in this essential mineral.

The form of iodine in seaweed is naturally absorbed but your body, unlike the iodine found in prescription pills and iodized salt. It's a lot tastier too

        • It caught my attention when you said that seaweed is good for providing energy boosts since it’s rich in iron, magnesium, vitamin B12, and folic acid, which helps fight tiredness and fatigue healthily and naturally. I’m trying to make up for my exhaustion and stress from work by having healthy meals regularly to keep my body functioning properly, so I need to keep this in mind when I go shopping for ingredients tomorrow. I’ll be sure to consider buying Alaska coastal seaweed as well when I visit the seafood market later. https://freshfishmarket.com/seaweed
