Why Small Business Saturday matters

Small Business Saturday aims to recognise the £1.8 trillion that SMEs and local enterprises contribute to the UK economy every year. A grassroots initiative launched in response to Black Friday, the campaign has been running in the UK since 2012.

But buying from independent retailers isn't just about cash value. It's what your spending power can do for your community, by building relationships and supporting livelihoods.

Mara employs 15 people locally in Edinburgh and Fife, and works to support coastal communities at home and further afield. Many of our lovely local stockists are also small businesses. If you live in Scotland, why not stop by one of them this weekend and support us both?
