The Beauty of Seaweed
We think fine art photographer Josie Iselin’s seaweed images are stunning, so we had to share them with you, fellow seaweed fans.
From her book ‘An Ocean Garden,’ the pictures were produced on a flatbed scanner. Each image reveals the exquisite colour and extraordinary forms of more than two hundred seaweed specimens, gathered from tidal pools along the California and Maine coasts.
In an interview with Smithsonian magazine, Josie says,
"Seaweed is extraordinarily beautiful, profoundly interesting and important, and so few people know this.
Some kelps can grow as much as 60 feet in a single season. They can grow very fast, up to ten inches a day!"
We share Josie's awe. This extraordinary growth is one things that makes seaweed so sustainable as food.
